Firm, Calm, and Connected: The Truth About Gentle Parenting
November 3rd from 6:30-8:00pm
790 Turnpike Street, Suite #102
North Andover, MA
The phrase gentle parenting is everywhere - it’s become a buzz word that pops up in parenting articles, blogs, Instagram accounts, and maybe even around your own kitchen table. But what does it actually mean?
You don’t want to feel like you’re constantly yelling at your kids, getting into power struggles, or threatening punishments. At the same time, you know you don’t want to raise kids who are entitled and feel like they’re in charge. Right now, there are a lot of opinions out there about gentle parenting… and there’s also a lot of misinformation. Based on what you’ve heard about it so far, you may have questions or even doubts about whether to use it in your own parenting experience. But what does it actually look like in practice?
Does gentle parenting mean that the kids run the show? (Hint: it doesn’t!)
How exactly do boundaries fit into a gentle parenting approach - or are they even a part of it? (Hint: they are!)
Does gentle parenting mean I never say ‘no’ to my kids? (Hint: it doesn’t!)
Is responding to or even validating my child’s feelings the same as giving in to them? (Hint: it’s not!)
Will my child be prepared for the world outside of our home if I use a gentle parenting approach? (Hint: often better prepared!)
It can all feel so confusing and overwhelming, and there is no guidebook for what it actually looks like in practice or how to use it in a concrete way in your own parenting.
This is where I come in. Join me, a fellow parent, step-parent, and parenting therapist, as we unpack what gentle parenting actually is, what it definitely isn’t, and answer all of your questions.
You’ll leave the evening with:
A better understanding of brain development in children, and how that helps us to understand their reactions and behaviors in some of the most challenging moments
A clear picture of what gentle parenting actually means, and examples of how to use this approach in specific, concrete, and common parenting situations
Tangible tools and strategies to allow you to balance making space for your children’s feelings and supporting their emotional development, while also setting clear, firm boundaries
A snapshot of what the research says about the longterm impacts of this type of parenting approach
An opportunity to ask questions and problem solve around how to apply this approach to some of your real-life parenting challenges
